Dragon Mountain Skills is based in the beautiful surroundings of Snowdonia in North Wales, and among the courses on offer, are hill skills courses. Hill Skills courses are suitable for all ages, and aim to teach you how to safely make the most of what mountains like Snowdonia have to offer. Complete beginners can sign up for ‘Discover Hillwalking’, a weekend course that will not only teach you the basics of hillwalking, but you’ll learn a lot about Snowdonia, its history, landscape, and flora and fauna as well. Learn about map reading, issues surrounding the weather, what to do in an emergency, and what equipment and clothing you’ll need. There’s also an ‘Exploring Map and Compass Course’ for anyone who is familiar with hill walking, but would like to build up their confidence with navigating. You’ll learn how to navigate in low cloud or mist, and how to safely stray from the track and increase your route options. Bryn and his experienced instructors also run a Further Navigation Skills Course, which teaches Micro Navigation, and Hill Skills, which is their most popular course.
Just like some of the other courses, Hill Skills will teach you about reading the weather, planning and preparing for hill walks, emergency procedures, and map/compass skills, but you’ll also be taking on some demanding walks. The Nantlle Ridge, Glyderau, Carneddau, and Snowdon peaks will all be covered in this exciting course.
Dragon Mountain Skills offer a variety of courses, and pride themselves on their knowledge, expert instruction, and low instructor/client ratios. Their course costs are worked out on a daily basis, taking into consideration the number of people booked on the course.
