Scotland, The Lake District, North Wales, Dartmoor, Mont Blanc, and The Eiger, are all mountains that Ian Ridley has climbed during his 35 year love affair with walking and rock climbing. Ian has been walking since he was 11 and now holds Mountain Leader Summer and Winter qualifications, a Single Pitch Award for Rock Climbing, and an Outdoor First Aid Certificate. These skills and experience fuel the fire behind Mountain-Skills, a company offering a variety of Hill Skills and other courses across the UK. You could take in Cullin Ridge on the Isle of Skye, The Cairngorms, Scafell Pike, or Snowdonia, if you book one of their courses.
Mountain Skills could be the company of choice if you are looking to learn a new outdoor skill, or improve on existing experience. The low student/teacher ratio on offer here means that you’ll receive personal high quality tuition whichever course you book on, but what are the options?
Expert advice and guidance can go a long way on a Hill Skills course, and if you’re looking to make the most of your hill walking experience and build up your confidence, then you could choose a two day course. You’ll learn about navigation, mountain hazards, access and conservation, and even movement issues, such as using walking poles, and pacing yourself. There’ll also be the opportunity to ask for advice on emergency procedures, clothing and equipment, and how to safely manage your walking party.
Hill Skills and Camping can often go hand in hand, and Mountain Skills have recognised this, and want to harness your spirit of adventure with a 2 day Hills Skills and Camping Course. There will be no manmade ‘I’m A Celebrity’ style wilderness; this is real wild camping at its best. You’ll be instructed in all the topics covered in their Hills Skills Courses, and be taught some camping skills as well. You’ll learn about choosing a camping site, how to ensure you make a minimal impact on the environment, and take part in some interesting camp crafts. Last, but by no means least, you can have the ultimate Hills Skills and Camping experience in either Wales, The Lake District, or Scotland. The 5 Day Navigation, Hill Skills and Camping Course includes 2 nights camping and a variety of Hill Skills instruction.
Mountain Skills have an impressive range of Hill Skills courses, and also run Winter Skills, Guided Walks, Scrambling, and Rock Climbing Programs. Find out more at http://mountain-skills.com
